and overheard their conversation about the state of things, Moon humbly listening to Earth's worries that her children will be the death of her: they drain her veins, infect her waters, drill her flesh, leaving lesions and wounds, blisters and boils wherever they settle. Her children are causing her great sickness, she has a high fever, the wintertime being her only sigh of relief in her olden age. besides the harm her children were causing her, which she always forgave, she wept because they rarely even remembered her as their mother, and failed to see and treat each other as family, they were forgetful and ignorant of the great tribe from which they came.
Rabbit's eyes melted with compassion and he wished peace and blessings upon her, and relief from all her troubles. A single tear dropped onto Moon's wrinkled hand, and she turned to look at the pitiful creature. She asked him if he would like to return to earth as a man, in order to remind his brothers and sisters of their duties to their mother and each other. Instead of destroying her beautiful flesh, they should work together to grow a great great great garden which will be her temple rebuilt, or rather, re-grown. And so Granmaw Moon sent Rabbit down to Mama Earth, reborn as a baby boy.
